A Chosen Generation

A Chosen Generation

This heartbeat is part of a series that was first published in the church bulletin when Covenant EFC embarked on our Seed Fund Faith Journey.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” – Psalm 145:4

Many of us in Covenant EFC came to know Christ through the evangelistic fervor of the para-churches in the 70s and 80s. The church was not as strong then. We are indeed the recipients of His unmerited saving grace, love and mercy. We also became the beneficiaries of God’s blessing on Singapore as the economy progressed from third world to first, and our city was transformed from mudflats to metropolis. Collectively, we have enjoyed decades of unprecedented spiritual growth as well as material prosperity.

With every privilege and blessing comes great responsibility. We are the chosen ones! We are to be a royal priesthood that proclaims and commends God’s works and mighty acts to the generations after us. We are to be a channel of God’s blessings. Every Covenanter can invest his/her resources to grow a vibrant Intentional Disciplemaking Church movement. This is a sacred trust that we must steward wisely and responsibly. The DNA of authentic discipleship and intentional disciplemaking is already being lived out by many Covenanters, both individuals and families, as several generations of disciples and disciplemakers have been mentored and nurtured.

What one generation neglects, the next rejects. What one generation consecrates, the next perpetuates. Let us be the generation whose lives are fully consecrated to the Lord, and who will stop at nothing to grow a vibrant IDMC movement for the next generation. May I encourage you to give your best to Covenant EFC’s $40M Seed Fund which will enable us to build the infrastructure and capacity needed for this very purpose.

885 Covenanters and families have indicated a Firstfruit gift of about $6.9million. The giving has begun since last Sunday. Have you participated? If not, will you join the rest to seek the Lord about your contribution to the Seed Fund ending February 2019.

We are God’s chosen ones. We are channels of His blessings!
